LR Family: Fun ideas for everyone

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- Here are some fun ideas from Little Rock Family.

Dino Dash and Discovery Fest at Museum of Discovery, Saturday, May 19

Luckily, you won't have to outrun any prehistoric predators at the Museum of Discovery's annual Dino Dash. But you will have to be speedy if you want to be the first to arrive at the post-event street festival near the museum.

Families will run in a 5K or participate in the 1K fun run/walk to help support the science and technology center; 100 percent of the registration fees and proceeds from the festival go to benefit the Museum of Discovery's statewide educational programs. Even those who don't run can enjoy the free Discovery Fest from 7:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Families can watch science demonstrations, have their faces painted, play games, make crafts and more.

Progress of new recycling program in central Ark.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- It's been one month since 90,000 new recycle bins were distributed.

The new program allows residents to combine all recyclable materials instead of separating each item. Residents can also earn points by how much they recycle, and those points can be redeemed for gift cards to companies like Clorox and Coca-Cola.

"We have an easier way to recycle," said Jordan Johnson, the spokesman for Waste Management.

He reveals the amount of materials collected from Little Rock, North Little Rock and Sherwood.

"Approximately 2,800,000. So that equates to 35 pounds per household during the month of April. So we cannot thank people enough," Johnson said.
